Saxton CC vs Thorner Mexbrough

30th May 2009
Saxton CC 170-9, Thorner Mexbrough 172-5 – Thorner Won By 5 Wickets

Enter the arrival of the hottest day of the year and the current league leaders. Saxton without this week top wicket taker DC and Captain Hills. So stand in captain Potter takes all the responsibility for the defeat.

We did not as a team endear ourselves to the umpires as at 1.25 there was only 6 players and the Captain hadn’t done the team sheet or tossed up!!!!!

Harry wins the toss, and bats first, Thorner open with the 2 quickest bowlers seen so far this year, Tea Boy out with the score on 20 then a really good partnership between Mr Buck and the newly invigorated Jeff Winter/Pieter-fan. Pieter-fan out with the score on 80 in the 23rd over. Halfway, 80 for 2, 200 plus here we come. Bucky and Len put on nearly 50 so with 31 overs gone we are 123 for 3. 14 overs left run a ball to the end 200 +, but no the Saxton middle order forgot to fire again with only Oringe getting into double figures with 14no at the end. So 170 something to bowl at.

Tea time. Excellent teas from Mrs Potter ably assisted at bread buttering by Harry. Victoria Sponge who can ask for more.

Jeff and Cheeky open up with a really tight first ten overs only going for 23 bowling some really good balls. But we only picked up the one wicket. Then the opener really decided he liked to drive the ball so we let him do it loads of times helping himself to 60 before being spectacularly caught by Oringe. Back in the game, we picked up a few more wickets with good catches and an LBW from Bucky where he became the umpire as well as bowler. Thorners opening bowler came in at 5 and changed the game scoring 38no in 6 overs.

Coaching points
