Saxton A (6)  v Kirk Hammerton A (0)
Saxton A won by 118 runs
Saxton A 182/9
Kirk Hammerton A 64 all out

First game in division 5 for the second team and could this season be as successful as the last? The usual blend of faces arrived at the ground for just before half one, with one new addition being one of the wisest heads in cricket, flamboyant opening batsman Dave Buck. The skipper won the toss and duly chose to bat on a hard but green batting track.

It all started well with the moustachioed one cutting for a boundary in the first over, and King of the Swingers, Alex Hare also playing fluent at the other end. Hare then fell to a good catch at mid wicket, and the Ginger Wonder also played an eye catching 6 ball innings before being castled. Buck then also capitulated to good bowling in the 12th over leaving Saxton 24-3. Sully the hoody monster and young Coe rebuilt with a steady partnership, before the big man nicked one behind having made 18. Skipper was next, soon joined by Wragg when Coe fell for 42. Despite a slow start from the skipper he batted sensibly throughout the innings finally cutting loose in the last 5 overs and ending up with 60n.o., Saxton having made 181-9.

Mrs Gilbertsons teas then went down a treat before it was back into the windy field to try and win the game with some good bowling! Yorkshire protégé Miss Buck and Coe opened up each bowling a tight first 6 overs picking up 2 wickets a piece. Tiger Tyson then came on, deceiving the batsman with a beamer first up before delivering the now legendary wicket taking second ball. To be fair Saxton bowled well and Kirk Hammerton never looked like getting into the game and it was left to Goose and the Wise One to mop up the tail, the innings eventually concluding with the score on 64 in about the 30th over.
So a fantastic start to the season, and with many performances of the same and a great team spirit no doubt this could once again be a very successful season.
