McGrath - Sherburn Cricket Club"
Saxton Cricket Club would like to
express its condolences to all family, friends and
team mates of Andy McGrath.
Everyone at Saxton Cricket Club was saddened to
hear about Andy’s untimely death at the weekend.
He was a cricketer who was highly respected by his
team mates at Sherburn Eversley as well as other
teams within the Wetherby League.
A family man, good team mate and fine cricketer.
He will be sadly missed.

Could we get all

teams left happy"

Desite racking up competitive score through a
good partnership betwen Lewis and Charlie, the Tabs
openers came out and hit the ball all around the
park in the first six overs, leaving us behind the
eight-ball, which allowed he Tabs middle order to
ease their side to victory.
It was a win by
default for the U9's as Tabs A got their dates mixed
up and didnt show up. A Parents vs Kids game was
had instead with everyone looking liek they were
having a good time. Thanks to Prak / Mike / Nige
for keeping everything going.

The Newsletter April 2013
And so as the snow start to melt over the ground,
it means the cricket season is upon us again. Last
year was a huge year for the club and the majority
of us have had a well-earned break over the winter.
The pavilion is now as good as finished and plans
move on to finishing the grounds-mans hut / getting
services up to the ground. We finally have an official
date for the opening ceremony on the 23rd June and
Yorkshire Ladies will be coming to play a Saxton
side. If you had any ideas / or could help out please
approach a committee member
I would like to say a huge- thank you to those in
the club who don’t have much of a break, Pete
Snowden and Nigel Gilbertson, who have been busy
preparing the outfield and square. I would also
like to say a huge thank-you to Chris who has been
busy over the winter sorting out the fixtures and
events for 2013, and also to Alan whose financial
work never stops. The last thank-you must go to
the farms around the club, whom have leant us machinery
over the winter to sort-out the car park / shift
materials around the ground. We need to have a full
grounds-day up at the club before the season starts,
so could all 1st and 2nd team players please come
to the ground for 10a.m on SATURDAY 13th APRIL 2013
All of the fixtures / events that the club has booked
in for 2013 are now up on the website, and apart
from a few minor niggles, the club has finished
the main pavilion building. Since completion the
club has received a number of enquiries from members
and villagers about using the pavilion. If you would
like to use the pavilion please could you contact
Chris or Ian for a discussion.
Member subs are now due for playing senior and junior
members of the club. Could any subs be paid as soon
as possible as this allows the club to buy kit /
maintain machinery etc. I also like to thank Dan
Hewer for volunteering to help as Membership Secretary
for 2013. Could subs be posted through the letterbox
of the treasurer; Alan Tyson, Plough Corner, Saxton
or given to one of the captains.
Juniors 1st Child / 2nd Child - £25 / 12.50
Senior Players - £40
Saxton Cricket Club has entered an U9 team in the
league for the first time this year. There are around
8-10 fixtures mainly at home on Sunday mornings
which we hope you will come and support. If you
have a child within this age group who you would
like to play please contact Prack Veerasamy on 07813563270,
or alternatively come along to any junior practise
night on a Tuesday. There are two more weeks of
U9 nets on a Monday night at Sherburn High School,
8th and the 15th and a huge thank you to Prack,
Dave, Phil and all the other parents who have been
We also have an U17’s team in the league that
has around 10 games on a Monday night throughout
the year. If you are interested in playing please
contact me, Ian Cunningham on 07811930328. Practise
nights for U17’s are also on a Tuesday night
Unfortunately for the first year in a long time
we have been unable to enter an U15 team in the
league due to the lack of numbers in this age group.
This is a real shame so over the weekend the junior
coaches have met with Church Fenton cricket club
and come to an arrangement that the Saxton U15’s
are able to get regular competitive cricket in this
age group. If any parents would like to know more
details please contact me.
We still have a “vacancy” for any parent
who would be able to help us out with junior’s
administration, so if there is anybody out there
who could give up an hour or so a week, helping
with the juniors administration please don’t
be shy in coming forward, as your help would be
much appreciated. Lastly can I remind everyone that
the Child Welfare Officer for 2013 is Dave Buck
and so if there are any issues on welfare please
contact David directly or through myself.
The next six months are going to be the busiest
in the club’s history, with numerous fixtures
and high profile media events. We would like to
share our success by inviting you or your business
to sponsor a match day or banner at the ground.
Your contributions will make a huge difference to
the club and details can be found on the attached
We would like to offer family and friends the chance
to remember an individual with a memorial bench
at the pavilion. To make an enquiry please email
via email@example.com for further details.
If you would like to keep up-to-date with any of
the latest results / match reports / events / or
player averages please visit the website www.saxtoncc.co.uk
There will be one more week of indoor senior nets
on Monday 8th April at 7p.m and then hopefully we’ll
go outdoors for a practise before the season. Keep
an eye on the calendar on the main page of www.saxtoncc.co.uk
for any changes.
After around 6/7 years, Steve Hills has decided
to relinquish the first team captaincy and pass
on to Jon Potter. Huge thanks from everyone in the
club and committee to Steve for completing this
role for the club. Jon or any of the other captains
can be contacted on the numbers below.
Skills / Help
The assistance that has been given by members of
the club, and the businesses they work for, providing
labour and materials towards the pavilion has been
truly fantastic over the last 12 months. If you
feel that you could give a few hours to the club
over the next year, it would help to keep the club
“healthy” for generations to come. We
are looking for individuals who may be able to help
give the club some time or advice on the following;
Hut Roofing / Electrics / Signs and Designs / Legal
/ Project management / Accountancy /Fund-raising
If you’re not sure what you could offer, but
want to help, perhaps have a quiet chat with our
chairman Mark Greenwood in the Greyhound!
Apart from the twice yearly newsletters, we would
like to be better at keeping in contact with members
of the club and the village. If you would like to
send us your e-mail address this would make it easier
(and cheaper) for the club to do this. Please just
send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and then
we will add you to the clubs database
